- Top 7 Best Nail Polishes -

Every woman loves a good manicure, but not every woman wants to pay a large amount of money as well as take hours out of their day just to get those spa-quality nails. But we’ve all been there: we spend a great deal of care adorning our nails with a gorgeous color only to have it look like a hot mess or worse – chip off the very next day.

That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the seven best nail polishes - so that you can get spa-quality nails in the comfort of your own home. And as always, we’re committed to giving you the best and most accurate advice. That’s why we look for honest reviews, overall brand reputation, and hard data about the product. And all of that gets factored into our ratings!

OPI Nail Lacquer

OPI Nail Lacquer, I'm Not Really a Waitress, Red Nail Polish, 0.5 fl...
  • A vivacious chianti RED NAIL POLISH Awards: Sunday Times Style Beauty Awards 2015, Best Beauty Awards 2015
  • Draw their gazes with pearly, opalescent coverage with this NAIL POLISH SHADE
  • Complete any look with this pink NAIL LACQUER shade so deep, it's almost red, Devious!

If you’re searching for a tried-and-true nail polish, then look no further. This truly is the best nail polish in a class of its own.

OPI is a trusted brand that nearly everyone who has ever painted their nails has heard of. They’ve dominated the industry for a long time and are renowned for a reason: their superior quality of products.

For starters, they have over 200 shades of any color you could ever think of. That means it doesn’t matter if you’re going out for a hot date or looking to sport the latest floral trends, there’s a color for you!

Their nail polishes last a week without chipping, which has been proven by the countless customer reviews agreeing with that statement. This means you can have a new color each week without ever having your nails look less than fabulous.

Furthermore, the nail polish comes off with your standard acetone remover. That might not sound like an important point, but you’d be surprised how many polishes rack up complaints because of stubborn remnants refusing to leave their nails.

The only potential negative we could find was the price. This truly is a higher-end polish. But it is still cheaper than a single manicure, and you’re getting the high-quality you’d expect at a price point like that.

For all the reasons we’ve listed above, and with really no glaring negatives, we’ve given this nail polish a perfect five-star rating.

Essie Nail Polish

  • whether you’re going for a quick-dry gloss, a plump gel polish-like look, or a soft-touch matte finish, an essie nail...
  • essie's salon-quality nail supplies are all you need for a stylish manicure or pedicure treatment at home, from base...

Another industry-giant, Essie has been a go-to nail polish brand since 1981. This is another high-end polish that boasts impressive quality and offers a respectable 100 shades. A bit expensive, but that isn’t too ridiculous given the reputation of the company and the quality you’re getting.

There are some differences, though, that separates this brand from other top-of-the-line brands – the most notable of such being the fact that it is Formaldehyde, Toluene, and DBP-free. That means you’re treating your nails a lot nicer by not using those harsh chemicals.

Essie’s nail polishes also last a week being chip-free, which is a statement that reviewers seem to agree with unanimously. Essie also boasts a superior consistency of polish, making it easier to achieve that salon-quality look.

Essie also advertises only needing one coat to achieve a pearly, colorful finish. This is important because, in the long run, it ends up saving you time and money. Plus your polish will last longer.

The only negative we could find was through customer reviews. The common theme among complaints was that the color appeared slightly different on the nail than it did in the bottle or on the screen (if purchased online).

Given the reasons we previously stated, it’s clear that Essie’s superior quality of product demands a spot as one of the best nail polishes. However, minor complaints cause us to give it a near-perfect score of 4.5 stars.

ZOYA Nail Polish

ZOYA Nail Polish, Adel, 0.5 fl. oz.
  • Does not contain Doetoluene or dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
  • Chip-resistant
  • Long-wearing

ZOYA nail polishes lead a category largely untouched by the big players in the industry: vegan-friendly. This brand prides itself on delivering the same performance of high-end nail polishes while being free of the harsh chemicals that riddle the other players in the field.

ZOYA is considered what is called “Big 10-free.” Meaning it doesn’t contain any of the ten leading chemicals commonly found in nail polishes – some of those being: formaldehyde, camphor, and lead. So this product provides an excellent alternative for people who are more conscious about what they are putting onto their nails.

Aside from that, they offer 40 different colors, which is a bit low for the entire company, but there’s enough variety to satisfy most customers.

The price is what you would expect from a nail polish that delivers quality and has a label such as vegan-friendly.

Overall, the quality of the product is desirable. Most of the time it turns out looking professional and smooth. There is, however, one common complaint found in customer reviews that seems to be plaguing this company: a few specific colors seem to be unforgivably thin, difficult to apply, and one color is even thought to turn out bumpy. No one wants a rough nail polish!

Overall, this seems to be a great product, especially for the fact that it is vegan-friendly and free of harsh chemicals. And although there is only one main negative that is color-specific, it’s quite significant in our opinion, which is why ZOYA nail polishes are only getting a 4-star rating, when otherwise it would’ve been much higher on our list, maybe even labeled as the best nail polish.

NYC In A Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish

New York Color In A New York Color Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish,...
  • Infused with strengthening minerals
  • Gives nails a high gloss finish
  • Sets in seconds-dry to touch

If you’re looking to save on time and money, then this is the best nail polish for you. This nail polish might be one of the lowest-price polishes you’ve ever laid your eyes on, but don’t let that fool you. You’re getting some serious quality.

Another remarkable thing about this nail polish is that it lives up to its name. It actually does dry in a minute! This is important to us because whenever a product makes a bold claim like that, it needs to be true. And according to the various reviews, it does.

Speaking of reviews, the clear nail polish seems to be the clear winner in this category. It’s durable, gives a sparkling shine, and dries quickly, which is important because slower-drying polishes lead to higher risk of fingerprint marks tarnishing your new nails.

The only major negative on this is that there is an extremely limited color choice. There are only seven colors available – eight if you count the clear. Plus, it’s very tough to find online, and that is including Amazon. You can, however, find it in most major department stores.

For the low price, great quality, true claims, you can see why this landed a spot on our list. But because of the small choice of colors and the limited online availability, this gets a 4-star rating.

Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel

Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel, Chip Resistant Diamond...
  • Salon quality, gel-like brilliant shine nails—all in 2 speedy steps
  • Designed to work with ColorStay Gel Envy nail polish
  • Formulated with DiamondFlex Technology, making it our toughest, most chip resistant top coat yet

Gel nails have been a hot trend in the past couple years, and it’s not hard to see why. A thick, glossy coat that lasts for weeks without chipping. Who wouldn’t want that? But what people don’t want is those harsh UV lights. Now, thanks to Revlon, you can have the best of both worlds: salon-quality look without the damage.

Now to be clear, this isn’t actually a gel polish, it just looks like it. And according to customer reviews, it’s pretty hard to tell the difference. Though some reviewers have said that it can be a bit harsh on the nails if you have thin nails or sensitive skin.

Another excellent thing about this product is the number of colors it comes in. It’s available in 40 different shades! That means there’s a color for everyone. It’s also relatively cheap compared to similar products.

Not to mention that each bottle comes with a wide applicator brush that helps prevent bubbling. However, it is important to note that a lot of customers are saying it takes a decent amount of time to dry between coats, and if you don’t wait until each coat is completely dry, it can still lead to bubbling, even with the special brush.

Also worth noting that, because this isn’t a true gel polish, it doesn’t offer the same durability. Even though most people have said that it does last longer than regular polish before chipping.

Because Revlon is a trusted brand, there are plenty of colors available for every occasion, and the appearance is directly comparable to that of a true gel polish, this earns a spot on our list of best nail polishes. However, since it is harsh on weaker nails and because it takes a decent amount of time to dry, this polish gets a four-star rating.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel, Top Coat 0.5 fl oz by AB
  • Item Package Length: 11.43cm
  • Item Package Width: 5.842cm
  • Item Package Height: 3.81cm

This nail polish is incognito as a gel polish. You can get the same thick, shiny, fresh-manicured look right from home. This is a regular nail polish that is specially formulated to look voluminous just like a gel would. That also means that it lets you off the hook from having to use those harmful UV lights.

Unlike other gel-esque polishes, this one doesn’t require copious amounts of drying time in between each coat. Instead, you only have to wait about five minutes before moving onto the next step. That’s a big plus because most other gel-mimicking polishes require you to pause for upwards of twenty minutes for it to look right.

Another major point for Sally Hansen is that these polishes come in an astonishing 80 different colors! With a shade for each occasion, you won’t have to worry about switching brands just to get your perfect color.

One thing worth noting is that some customers are saying that, even though it looks as beautiful as a gel polish, it doesn’t actually last any longer than a regular polish.

So, because it offers a ton of different colors, looks like a gel when it is complete, and it saves you on time, we put this on our list. But because it is a bit expensive, you have to get two separate things, and it doesn’t last any longer than a regular polish, it earns a 3.5-star rating.

Pure Ice Nail Polish

Pure Ice nail polishes are a well-known, lower-end brand that is exclusively sold at Wal Mart. The best thing about this nail polish is that it is very affordable and the quality is comparable to that of a more expensive polish.

Pure Ice offers many different colors, including a top coat and a base coat. Another bonus is that this is also formaldehyde-free, so you don’t need to worry about putting harsh chemicals so close to your skin.

While this polish offers a lot for such a low price, there are some negatives. Customers often found that the nail polish was thin, which means you need to use more coats. Another thing people mentioned was that the color wasn’t always faithful to the swatches.

For the price, it is good quality, especially if you don’t mind putting in the extra time to add a few more coats. But the thinness does make it more difficult to apply correctly, and reviewers have mentioned the colors being slightly off, and that’s a big deal to us. For those reasons, Pure Ice nail polish gets a 3.5-star rating.

Top 5 Best Powder Foundation

- Top 5 Best Powder Foundation -

The basis of every flawless face is the perfect foundation. Everything else in the makeup application process is built around that, which is why having the best foundation is essential.

Whether it be sheer or full coverage, we know you don’t want your makeup to weigh you down or looked caked on. We know you want that flawless look to last all day (and night).

But we also know there are too many options out there to count, so we took the hard work out of it. We’ve compiled a list of the five best powder foundations on the market today! And these are absolutely the best of class in the powder foundation world.

As always, we want you to have the best experience, and we’re committed to giving you the best and most accurate advice. That’s why we look for honest reviews, overall brand reputation, and hard data about the product. All of that information gets considered when we give our ratings, so you can be assured you’re getting top-of-the-line advice!

Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder

Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder, Translucent
  • Uses the finest milled French "Cashmere" Talc to create an extremely light and silky powder
  • Looks natural, never cakey or powdery and sets makeup to prolong wear
  • Oil Free

If you’re looking for the best setting powder ever to be made, look no further. Laura Mercier’s Translucent Setting Powder is award-winning and show-stopping.

This isn’t your full-coverage, liquid foundation replacement. It’s quite the opposite. This is an ultra-fine powder that is nearly colorless. It’s meant to set the liquid foundation underneath to keep everything in place and fill in any pores or fine lines.

This is great if you have dry or combination skin and need to use a liquid or a cream foundation. After you’ve spent all that time getting your highlight and contour in exactly the right place, you don’t want to cover it up or smear it around. That’s why this powder is perfect.

It comes in two shades – light and dark, though they are barely noticeable. The lack of color allows you to see all the work you’ve done underneath. Instead of covering it, it sets the foundation underneath in place so that it won’t run, and it’ll last longer. Plus, the lack of color means you don’t have to worry about it matching your skin tone just right.

The powder is also ultra-fine. It’s meant to fill in any pores or fine lines, giving you the perfect, soft airbrushed look. It blurs together imperfections making your face look flawless. That’s also great if you’re taking photos. People will accuse you of photoshopping your face – it’s that amazing.

Another positive aspect about this powder is its half-matte finish. It controls oil and excess shine, but not to the point of making you look dried out. This gives your skin the most natural-looking finish. This is perfect for those times you don’t want anyone to notice that you’re even wearing makeup at all!

This powder is also long-lasting. It gives you up to 12 hours of wear. We’ve sifted through tons of customer reviews, and this was a major plus from most reviewers.

As if there aren’t enough great things to say about this product, we want to include just one more. Cakey-ness is a problem, only not one this product has. This foundation is super lightweight, so you can apply multiple layers if necessary and not have to worry about your makeup looking caked on.

Alas, there is one con: the price. Even though this brand isn’t among the ranks of MAC regarding being world-renowned, the price doesn’t reflect that. But if you can afford it, you’ll be getting the best powder foundation out there. The quality is worth it.

After all that we’ve said about Laura Mercier’s Translucent Powder, it’s probably not a surprise why it gets a 5-star rating.

Lancôme Dual Finish Multi-tasking Longwear Powder

Lancôme Dual Finish Versatile Multi-tasking Powder and Foundation...
  • Discover the best kept secret of millions of women for over 30 years. The versatile, skin transforming formula wears so...
  • Apply dry or wet as a powder or foundation for a natural matte finish.
  • This portable compact is perfect for quick touch ups, and comes with both a puff and a sponge to build sheer to full...

This Lancôme powder foundation is the most versatile powder on this list, making it a fabulous option for any occasion.

The first remarkable thing about this powder is that it can be used either wet or dry. If you wanted a thicker, more full-coverage look, you would use this as a wet-application powder. However, if you wanted a lighter, more sheer-coverage powder to use in conjunction with a liquid foundation, you can use this powder dry.

Due to its ability to be applied either wet or dry, it can claim to be sheer-to-full coverage. It’s also extremely buildable, meaning you can continue adding layers without quickly getting cakey. It does, however, start to feel heavy if you build all the way to full-coverage.

This product also gives options for people of various skin types. If you have dry skin, you can use it wet, and it won’t dry out your skin like other powders normally would. On the flip side, if you have oily skin, you can use this dry, and it will help control oil and shine all day long!

It’s also true-to-color. Most people who have purchased this product have said that it matches their skin tone near perfectly – even if they bought it online. And because this powder isn’t translucent, the shade matters. So, this is a big plus for Lancôme.

Another notable and unique thing about this product that we found while reading customer reviews is that it smells nice, although it isn’t heavily fragranced.

If you’re one of the many people who apply powders with the applicator puff that is provided, we have some disheartening news for you. The one main flaw people have commented on is that the applicator puff is too thin. However, Lancôme has stated that they’ve considered the comments, so it is possible that the problem has been resolved.

Lancôme is a high-end brand that has been around for a long time and has built for itself a solid reputation. That reputation includes high-quality makeup at a high-quality price. So this is a negative as well.

Overall, however, this is the best powder foundation concerning versatility and quality. For that reason, we had to make sure it got a spot on our list. However, due to the price and too-thin applicator puff, it receives a near-perfect 4.5-star rating.

MAC Studio Fix Plus Foundation

MAC, Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation NC45 Boxed New, 1 Count
  • Application pad is included underneath as shown in picture.
  • Country Of Origin: United States
  • Item Package Dimension: 9.0" L x 6.0" W x 3.0" H

Everybody has heard of MAC. They’re the most well-known makeup brand in existence both nationally and worldwide. With their astounding reputation and their high-quality products, it’s no wonder why they have at least one product on the list.

MAC Studio Fix Plus Foundation is a full-coverage, pressed powder foundation. Pressed powder isn’t as fine as loose powder, which means it’ll give you more coverage. That’s great for covering up any acne spots, redness, or unevenness.

MAC liquid foundations have been well-known to have orangish undertones and miss the mark on color quite frequently. However, their powder foundations don’t seem to face the same problem. According to customer reviews, the color was as expected and did not have any funky undertones.

MAC’s Studio Fix Plus is also great for oily skin. This powder helps absorb natural oils to keep you looking shine-free all day – especially since it has a matte finish. While its matte finish can help control the shine and make you look more natural, too much matte can easily make you look dried out. So, you’ll want to consider some highlighter to use along with it.

One negative that MAC’s foundations are known for all-around is their tendency to look cakey, and this is no exception. If you want the full-glam, beat-that-face look, then they’re perfect. But if you’re looking for a subtler, color-correcting foundation, you’ll want to remember that less truly is more.

Another thing we’ve noted from customer reviews is that this foundation does feel a bit heavier than some others on the list. But we can’t knock MAC too much, because full-coverage powders do tend to lean towards the heavier side.

MAC Studio Fix Plus is best used in place of liquid foundation, not as a setting powder. If you try to use this to set the foundation underneath, you might end up smearing those precisely-placed contour lines.

MAC is an expensive, top-of-the-line brand. Its true, you get the quality you pay for, but you’re spending a lot.

Overall, if you want a powder that will last all day, that is great for oily skin, and that gives you genuine full coverage, then this is the best powder foundation for you. But due to its weightiness, tendency to look cakey, and its price, we’ve given MAC Studio Fix Plus Foundation a 4-star rating.

NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder

NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Stay Matte But Not Flat Powder Foundation,...
  • Matte Powder Foundation: This NYX Professional Makeup pressed powder foundation offers lightweight, buildable coverage...
  • Versatile Application: A naturally flawless matte makeup look with minimal effort; For light coverage or to set...
  • Face From Foundation To Finish: Complete your makeup look with our full line of NYX Professional Makeup face products to...

As our only drugstore powder foundation on the list, NYX has made quite the name for itself in recent years as an affordable yet high-quality makeup brand. It isn’t hard to see why, especially with this powder.

NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat powder foundation has a considerable leg up over the other powders on this list: the price. It’s uncommon to find high-end quality at a price people can reasonably afford, but NYX has pulled it off.

This powder is a medium coverage foundation, but it can readily be built up to full coverage without looking cakey. That is due in part to the fineness of the powder, which also gives it the ability to fill in fine lines and pores, making your face look smooth and flawless even up close!

Another bonus to this product is that it offers plenty of shades for every skin tone. Not only that, but according to reviews left by customers, the shades match perfectly.

This foundation also is considered a half-matte finish, meaning it’s matte enough to control oil, but not the point of looking dried out and dehydrated. It lets just enough shine through to look natural.

This product also lasts up to 12 hours, giving you a flawless look nearly all day. Plus, it’s lightly fragranced and smells marvelous.

There are two cons, however, namely that some customers with sensitive skin reported major breakouts the following days. Which, they said, was unfortunate, because they were very pleased with the quality of the product.

Another not as serious negative is that there isn’t a lot of product to go around. However, for the price, it hasn’t been an influential aspect for customers.

Due to the excellent quality and affordability of this powder, we felt it deserved a place on our list. However, due to it not being compatible for people with sensitive skin, we felt compelled to give it a 4-star rating.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation Light-Medium...
  • This hypoallergenic foundation gives you natural radiance and matte coverage in a weightless, flake-free powder. The...
  • Skinvigorating ingredients - Amazonian clay: Nature's most perfect ingredient for better, longer, truer wear....
  • Benefits: Vegan, Hypoallergenic, Tarte 12-hour power, Waterproof, Dermatologist tested, Cruelty-free

If you’re someone who has sensitive skin – or someone who is just conscious about what goes on the body’s largest organ – then fear not! We have a foundation that you’ll adore.

Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Foundation is vegan, which is a huge plus. That’s an area most makeup giants haven’t explored too much. So you can also say goodbye to harsh chemicals and animal cruelty. Tarte is a cruelty-free brand, meaning they don’t test any of their products on animals. We hope all the makeup brands will eventually follow in their footsteps.

Another great thing about this product is that it is hypoallergenic. Again, great for people with sensitive skin. It’s also waterproof, which is a claim we haven’t seen from other powder foundations. It also lasts up to 12 hours, which means even if you spend those 12 hours in the rain, your makeup should still be flawless.

This loose-powder foundation claims to be full-coverage, which is a great option for people with oily skin to cover up their blemishes and unevenness. However, according to customer reviews, the coverage is actually more like a medium, not full. Meaning you might need to apply a few layers to get the desired coverage you want.

This powder controls oil and shine, having a matte finish. However, you don’t need a highlighter to solve the problem of matte finishes making you look dried out. This foundation is produced with something called Tourmaline. It’s a gemstone that is naturally reflective, which gives your face a truly natural shine.

Even though this foundation is medium to full coverage, it’s very lightweight. According to customers who have reviewed this product, it’s also easily buildable. Plus, it doesn’t flake off as some other, denser powders do.

We have a lot of great things to say about this product, but while reading through reviews, we found a common complaint. Tarte’s Amazonian Clay powder is made Amazonian clay. That’s a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s natural and great for your skin, but on the other hand, some people noted a slightly red undertone that didn’t go well with their natural skin tone.

Another thing worth remarking is that this product is pricey. Although, for it being labeled vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, we would expect the price to be a little bit higher. You’re getting higher-quality ingredients in your makeup.

So, because this powder foundation is better for your skin than others, the brand is cruelty-free, it’s vegan-friendly, and overall gives you a beautifully-airbrushed look, we had to include this on our list. However, because it is so expensive and has a slightly red undertone, we decided to give this a 3.5-star rating.

A Guide To The Best Eyelash Curlers

best eyelash curler

No makeup bag is complete without a great eyelash curler. After all, a high-quality eyelash curler adds the finishing touch to a perfect night out look. You do not need to be a makeup expert to know that eyes often play the more dramatic and striking role in a styled look. Mascara is useful for boosting volume and length but does not provide the dynamic shape and lift that a curler does.

But for many, a lash curler can seem like a scary contraption that does not belong anywhere near your eye. You may even have some negative experiences that hold you back from using one. Pinched eyelids and yanked lashes are never any fun. It is the perfect tool for adding both volume and curl to your eyelashes with or without applying mascara.

The eyelash curler usually plays a role just before putting on mascara. It provides a natural curl to the lashes that no curling mascara can achieve. Instead, mascara is great for adding definition and volume to already-curled lashes.

That means that an eyelash curler is essential for those who wear makeup. It is also a good choice for those who prefer not to wear makeup. It can create the illusion that you are more awake and bright-eyed without a drop of cosmetics. Whether your makeup bag is fully stocked or not, an eyelash curler is a must-have accessory.

It is essential to find the best eyelash curler, though. Cheaply made curlers of poor quality can actually cause damage to your eyelashes. A proper curler should not cause breakage, pinch your eyelids, yank your lashes out, or leave them bent in an unnatural angle. Instead, it should gently shape your eyelashes to brighten your eyes with a light lift without tugging.

Every eyelash curler is different, so understanding your lashes and the best tools for them is essential. Short lashes have distinct needs from long lashes. You will also need to consider pressure and shape if you have particularly brittle eyelashes.

How to Use an Eyelash Curler: The Right Way

There is a lot of debate about whether an eyelash curler should be used before or after applying mascara. The general rule of thumb is to use it before mascara to prevent damage, smearing, and uneven curl. Mascara adds a hard coat to your lashes, so using a curler afterward can cause your lashes to break.

Be sure your eyelashes are clean and dry before curling. If you just showered or washed your face, wait a few minutes. Just like hair, wet lashes will not curl and can clump up unnaturally. Apply eyeshadow and eyeliner as needed.

Be cautious if you are using false eyelashes in your makeup look. The pressure from an eyelash curler can tug lashes off if the glue has not dried. If you plan on wearing false eyelashes, use your curler before applying them to your lids or wait until the glue has thoroughly dried before curling.

Then, use your lash curler as follows:

  • Position yourself in front of a well-lit mirror and open your eyes wide.
  • Start with the curler angled to the inside corner of your eye. These lashes tend to be shorter, so you will get a more even curl if you target them separately from the longer outer lashes.
  • Carefully put your eyelashes through the open curler as close to your lid as possible without pinching.
  • Lightly compress the curler so you can see your lashes curling around the tool.
  • Hold for around 10 seconds.
  • Repeat on the outside corner of your eye until all your lashes are curled.
  • Repeat as necessary until you reach your desired curl.

Your inner lashes tend to be shorter than your outer lashes, so separately curling them provides the maximum boost.

Do not grip too tightly when curling your lashes. A hard clamp can give your lashes that weird angled look that does not suit anyone’s style. Be gentle and hold it for longer, if needed.

Once your lashes are curled to perfection, brush a coat or two of mascara over them, and you are ready to go.

The Best Eyelash Curlers on the Market

Traditional Eyelash Curlers

A traditional eyelash curler is often made of stainless steel and configured to clamp down on lashes to give them a gentle curl. These tools are a staple for both glam and natural looks. Here is a look at the best eyelash curler selections available.

Surratt Relevée Lash Curler
  • Japanese hand-calibrated design
  • Ergonomic design requires less pressure
  • Gracefully curls and lifts lashes

The Releveé Lash Curler is a lightweight addition to a makeup routine. Its design prevents both pinching and awkward angled lashes. It provides a long-lasting curl with maximum comfort. This curler includes a replacement pad. While additional pads are not available, users report that gums from other brands like Shiseido will work as well.

A favorite of both celebrity makeup artists and makeup vloggers on Youtube, the Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler is a cult classic. The tool was designed to curl each lash for full definition and maximum curl. The silicone pad was also made to accommodate lashes both before and after applying mascara to take your look to the next level.

Shiseido Eyelash Curler
  • Shiseido eyelash curler.
  • Great product for your personal care and well-being.
  • High-quality product.

This simple eyelash curler has been recognized as the best tool for all eye shapes. It is flatter than many other curlers, which allows you to reach the base of your lashes easily without pinching skin. Overall, the quality of this curler makes it a top choice. Shiseido also sells replacement packs of lash pads to make curler maintenance as simple as possible.

Shu Uemura S Curl Eyelash Curler

Without sidebars, this little tool is more versatile than its counterparts. It can comfortably accommodate rounder eyes and shorter lashes.

The classic curler from Shu Uemura remains a solid choice by many. But, this new generation tool provides a solution for those who felt that the traditional curler did not fit their eye. The S Curler’s design provides full versatility and ergonomic support to suit virtually anyone.

Made of high-quality stainless steel, the Japonesque Power Curl is true to its name. Its contoured design provides a comfortable fit for most people. It also comes with the perk of free lash pad replacements for the life of the curler, so keeping it maintained can ensure a long life. Japonesque’s travel curler is also an excellent choice for compact stowing.

Many makeup artist bloggers have revered the SUQQU eyelash curler. Its unique design features an extended tip on the top that helps to push back hooded eyelids and reach the base of the lash line. It can take some time to get used to, but it is worth trying if you find other curlers ineffective. It comes with two replacement pads, which is a nice perk compared to many luxury brands that provide only one (or none at all).

Known as an instant eye opener, the Bobbi Brown Gentle Curl eyelash curler is a classic choice from a trusted and renowned makeup brand. While it may not have the exclusive feel as some of the boutique brands, it is a comfortable and affordable choice from a reliable company. This eyelash curler is available in the makeup section of most department stores, including Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and Bloomingdales.

Heated Eyelash Curlers

Heated eyelash curlers take beauty to the next level by adding more defined curl as well as keeping them looking their best. The higher temperature locks the shape of the lashes in place, much like a regular curling iron. Heated curlers do not generally have a clamp like traditional options. Instead, they usually have a wand or a comb that heats up and curls your lashes as you gently brush them over.

Heated curlers are perfect for those who are tired of pinched skin and unnatural crimping. Take a look at the top heated eyelash curlers on the market.

The EYE Crie combines the function of a traditional eyelash curler and the technology of a heated one for a useful hybrid model. It only takes seconds for the lash pad to heat up. A simple press of a button clamps your lashes like a classic curler, and the added heat holds the curl for up to eight hours. It also lights up so it can be used in dark settings. Batteries (AAA) are not included.

Maintaining Your Eyelash Curler

Curler maintenance is not just about ensuring your tool's longevity. It is also about preserving the integrity of your eyelashes. Eyelash curlers that are dirty or old are not only ineffective but can cause long-term damage to both your lashes and your eyes.

Clean your curler every week with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol. Wipe it down to clear off eyeshadow, skin cells, and other gunk that may accumulate on the pad. Every few months, go the extra distance and replace the curling pad itself. Most curlers come with replacements, but you can generally buy more from the seller. A new curling pad keeps your eyes clean, as well as providing a fresh curl for your lashes.

Styling your eyes can be rewarding, but understand that your eyes are also an essential organ. Exposing yourself to an eyelash curler with bacteria and oil on it can have adverse effects that are beyond beauty. Consider your health and be sure to keep your eyelash curler in tip-top shape.

After all, you should be replacing your makeup every three to six months. Include your curler in that schedule as well.

How To Get Rid Of Redness On Your Face

Whether you hate red skin because of how it makes you look, or because of the pain that comes along with a swollen face, you are not alone in your condition — well over fourteen million people in the United States alone suffer from some sort redness on their face. The situation became so commonplace in our country that we often ignore the indicators of early symptoms. As such, it is essential to be aware of what causes it and how you can prevent both present and future damage to your skin.

So what causes this condition? And what is the secret for how to get rid of redness on face? In this article, we will take a closer look at the primary condition that causes red face — rosacea — and some things you can do to prevent the skin problem.

What Conditions Causes Redness on the Face?

The first step for how to get rid of redness on face is finding out what causes it for most people. Five skin conditions popularly exhibit the symptoms of redness in the face. Some of these skin problems, like acne, occur when bacteria enter the skin, while others, like eczema, are chronic conditions. Let us take a look at these cases with a brief description before going more into the most popular cause of a red face.

  • Rosacea — A chronic skin condition that looks like acne with no known cure.
  • Acne — Skin inflammation that occurs in the skin when oil, bacteria, dead skin and dirt buildup in the skin pore.
  • Lupus — A fairly rare autoimmune disorder that causes damage to many areas of the body, including the skin.
  • Eczema — A rash-like chronic skin condition that causes red patches of flared up skin.
  • Seborrhea — Patches of red and flaky skin that occurs throughout the body during winter and under certain genetic lines.

Though not many people know about the skin disorder rosacea, the condition is second only to acne in causing red skin amongst people. Rosacea occurs gradually over a person’s lifetime — usually starting around the age of thirty. While most people first shrug persistent redness off as susceptibility to flushing, it eventually deepens in redness until blood vessels become visible on the surface of the skin.

When left without any treatment, rosacea begins exhibiting acne-like bumps and individuals’ noses become large and bumpy. Often the swollen skin also affects the eyes by making them irritated and bloodshot. While no current cure for the disorder exists, some treatment methods can work wonders for individual patients. On top of that, there are sensible precautions you can take to reduce the onset of rosacea if you believe you are particularly susceptible.

What Lifestyle Factors Make Redness on the Face Worse?

While persistent facial redness might indicate the early onset of a chronic skin disorder, it is equally likely that it is caused or exacerbated by lifestyle choices you make every day. Even if you do have a chronic skin problem, reducing some of these factors can slow the spread of the redness considerably.

The first factor that causes redness is alcoholic beverages. We often notice that individuals who drink too much get bright red faces. This condition occurs because the alcohol causes the capillaries beneath the skin to open up — which allows for more blood to flow. However, sometimes the capillaries can burst open which exacerbates inflammation under the skin.

The second factor is everyday stress that occurs from work, commuting and relationship problems. When pressure goes unchecked, it can cause acne and puffiness in the face — especially when it interferes with your sleep schedule. You can try and get more rest by meditating before bed. The third factor is bad cosmetic products. Skin lotions with harmful ingredients can irritate skin and cause redness. As such, you should pay close attention to what goes into your moisturizer.

Another common factor is too much UV rays from the sun. These damaging rays cause the blood vessels under your skin to grow, thereby increasing the overall redness. Make sure you put on a good sunscreen with good SPF and all-natural ingredients before you go outside. The last lifestyle factor that causes redness in certain individuals is spicy food. There is a reason our faces turn bright red when we eat a hot pepper — it is your body dilating its blood vessels in response. Avoid spicy foods, especially if you have rosacea.

Ways to Treat Redness on the Face

So, now that we know what causes the popular skin disorder let us find out how to get rid of redness on face. While most cases of redness of the skin come in the form of incurable chronic conditions, there are steps you can take that will reduce both the onset and intensity of puffy or flaky red skin. Here are five of the best methods you can use.

Certain types of facial masks can relieve some of the pain that accompanies red skin. They can also help put some moisture back into your skin while removing oils and damaging agents.

Cucumber masks are one favorite type of facial — merely grind up a cucumber in a food processor and then apply the paste to your face and let it dry. A different kind of mask that combats redness is an oatmeal mask. Only add water to a colloidal oatmeal moisturizer and then leave it on your skin for ten minutes. The last cover you can try is a honey mask. Honey contains many anti-inflammatory properties. You can thicken it for a facial mask by adding sugar or cinnamon — ingredients that help remove dead skin cells.

If you suffer from red skin on your face and body, then merely washing your skin every day can improve your condition significantly. Take a lukewarm bath, and when you get out to make sure you pat yourself dry with a towel instead of rubbing harshly. Also, check the ingredients of the soap and shampoo you use — they may worsen your skin’s condition, instead of improving it. Try medicated shampoos, or all natural soap when you wash and see if the redness on your face improves.

Switch to Diet that Combats Redness in the Skin

As we mentioned in the previous section, spicy foods, alcohol and even drinks with a hot temperature can exacerbate redness on the face. However, while you should avoid certain foods and beverages, you should actively incorporate others into your diet. For example, foods like apples, papaya, melons, coconut, peaches, celery, cucumber, spinach, strawberries, and blueberries all contain antioxidants and vitamins that improve the condition of the skin. Similarly, fish oil supplements and probiotics from yogurt, kombucha, and apple cider vinegar help fight the inflammation of individual skin types.

Try to Workout More on a Daily Basis

Working out is a good way you can combat the stress that worsens skin conditions like acne and rosacea. It can also improve the general circulation in your blood vessels. However, you should take it easy if you already suffer from late-onset chronic conditions: an exercise in environments that cool you — like the pool, or an air-conditioned room. Also, try and exercise during the morning or late afternoon, so you will not get overheated during the times of day with the most heat.

Drink Anti-Inflammatory Teas

Tea can work wonders on red or inflamed skin. Whether you drink them or apply them topically, many teas — like green, chamomile, and peppermint — contain healing properties that significantly improve the appearance of skin. In green tea, the active compound polyphenol revives dying skin cells in many individuals. You can get the nutritional benefits from tea either by drinking or making a topical wash for your face.

If you want to make a wash, then steep several bags of hot tea water and allow the mixture to cool off. Then, dip a washcloth in the lukewarm tea and press it over your face for ten minutes. You can do this once or twice a day until you notice an improvement.

We hope this article helped you figure out how to get rid of redness on face. You can manage many of these skin disorders in you identify the symptoms early. Keep in mind that many of the genetic disorders disproportionately affect certain ethnic groups — like Irish, English and Eastern European individuals. As such, you should pay close attention to your family history. If someone in your family suffers from puffy red skin on the face, then you should get checked out by a doctor. Antibiotic creams and laser treatments can help untreated conditions.

How To Get Rid Of Whiteheads

While many classify whiteheads as one of the relatively simple forms of acne, when messed with they can cause permanent skin damage. As such you should make every effort to learn how to get rid of whiteheads. Luckily, we compiled a list of the most effective ways out there. Come check it out.

How To Get Rid of Whiteheads

Whether you get them in high school the day before a big presentation, or in later on in adulthood, whiteheads always seem to come at the worst time. Sometimes it feels like all eyes in the room stare right at the bright white bumps. What is worse, if you touch them too much, or apply a damaging product, then you can permanently scar your face. As such, the sooner they are gone, the better. But, before we figure out how to get rid of whiteheads, we should first familiarize ourselves with what they are and what causes them.

What Are Whiteheads and What Causes Them?

Whiteheads are a mild form of acne that occurs when your skin pore becomes clogged with the debris of some sort. Sebum, dead skin, and other bacteria grow trapped in the pore while a layer of skin forms over it, thus creating the whitehead. Unlike other forms of acne like pimples and blackheads, whiteheads usually are not painful. However, many people consider them unsightly so that they can cause a lot of anxiety and feelings of self-consciousness in some individuals.

You cannot extract the sebum trapped in a whitehead by popping them like you would a blackhead. Though they do not usually become inflamed by themselves, if you mess with them, then they may turn into a more severe acne condition like an inflamed pustule.

The causes of whiteheads range from everyday cleaning habits to genetic dispositions. As most people know, the hormonal changes during adolescence make the skin increase its production of sebum, which in terms causes more whiteheads. However, another factor is simply genetics — families can pass things like skin conditions and the susceptibility to hormones to their offspring.

Another cause of whiteheads occurs when we stress ourselves out. Our stress-related glands also produce sebum. So, when we remain in a state of prolonged anxiety, our skin naturally produces more sebum. This stress process can create a vicious positive feedback cycle where the stress of acne causes new acne. Other life habits, like the amount of sleep you get, your exercise habits and the daily diet you consume also can affect the amount of acne you get.

How to Get Rid of Whiteheads

Whether you prefer an over-the-counter medication or a more natural method, there a lot of ways you can learn how to get rid of whiteheads. Some of them are as easy as not touching your face.

Try Not Touching Your Skin or Face As Much

Believe it or not, you probably touch your face a lot more than you realize every day. When we feel our faces, we transfer all the oil, dirt and bacteria on our hands right onto our face. All this gunk then goes on to clog pores and exacerbate existing acne.

Popping pimples are even worse. While it does force out the existing sebum trapped in the pore, it also creates a massive opening for more bacteria, dirt, and oil to enter. This bacteria, as well as the pressure from squeezing, only adds inflammation and speed up the spread of acne. So do yourself a favor and try not popping your whiteheads if you can help it.

Apply a Honey and Cinnamon Facial Mask

One of the most active natural fighters against whiteheads is also some of the most unlikely: honey and cinnamon. When combined with the strong anti-inflammatory benefits of honey, the rough cinnamon acts as an exfoliant, stripping away the dead skin causing the whitehead. Once stripped away, the honey enters the skin pore and promotes healing.

If you want to create a honey and cinnamon mask, then combine three parts honey with one part cinnamon. Stir the two ingredients together in a bowl and then apply the paste directly on your face. Let it sit and dry for around ten minutes and rinse the honey and cinnamon off with water. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.

Get Some Retinoid Cream or Vitamin A Cream

Most retinoid creams contain active compounds that unclog pores — usually, with the help of some vitamin A. You typically leave most of these types of creams on at night, which causes a heavy pore cleaning, as well as supposed anti-aging benefits. Alternatively, any vitamin A cream contains a slightly more natural way of getting some of the same effects of the retinoid cream. A large amount of antioxidants found in the vitamin helps combat redness well promoting the growth of new cells.

Use Tea Tree Essential Oil or Aloe Vera

The essential oil drawn from tea test is another natural product whose strong anti-inflammatory, as well as antimicrobial, properties make it ideal for getting rid of whiteheads. If you want to use the oil directly, make sure you dilute it with some water or carrier oil before applying it. Or, you can purchase a facial mask, cleanser or cream that contain tea tree oil and follow the instructions provided. Similarly, the cooling effect of aloe vera can soothing irritated patches of acne that burn.

Find a Skin Care Product With Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid

Benzoyl peroxide products remove oil and bacteria from your skin. Similarly, salicylic acid also causes a decrease in the skin’s production of oil. However, we recommend using salicylic acid if you want to get rid of whitehead specifically. Salicylic acid typically works better than benzoyl peroxide because it strips away the layer of dead skin and then dries out your skin which gets rid of the bacteria trapped with the dead skin cell’s pore.

Use A Wash Made of Apple Cider Vinegar

The acidic nature of apple cider vinegar causes a similar effect on the skin as salicylic acid. The ingredient shrinks the size of the skin pore, while the antibacterial reduces the spread of inflammation. If you want to make a washout of apple cider vinegar, then mix one part apple cider vinegar with four parts of warm water. Apply the mixture to a clean washcloth and cover your face. Leave it on for fifteen minutes and then wash your face off. Make sure you mix the apple cider vinegar with water or else the burning may cause irritation on your face.

Tips for Avoiding Future Whiteheads

Once you find out which method works best for you, you should probably stop using it. There usually is not any point into continuing using harsh ingredients and chemicals when you do not have to. However, there are some steps you can take towards improving your skin health and avoiding future whiteheads. Here are some of the best ways. The first tip is washing your face daily. Once before you go to bed and again if you worked out. Use pure soap, or just some warm water — as long as it is a gentle cleanse.

Another method you can use is exfoliating. As we mentioned, one of the major causes of whiteheads is the buildup of dead skin. Running a soft brush across your surface and face two or three times per week can remove this excess skin and keep it from clogging pore. When applying sunscreen make sure you get a brand that makes it specifically for the face. Other types of body brand sunscreens contain oils that can clog skin pores and cause whiteheads.

We also recommend cleaning your keyboard, cell phone, sunglasses, and any other vessel that might transport dirt, bacteria, and other germs into your skin. Believe it or not, these vessels usually contain the most bacteria, because we rarely think about washing them and touch them frequently with dirty hands.

If you wear makeup, then make sure you remove it before you go to sleep every night. Also, make sure you check the expiration date on your beauty products. When creams and powders go wrong, they can damage the skin. You should also wash your brushes and sponges after you use them and refrain from sharing your products if you can.

We hope this article helped you learn how to get rid of whiteheads. It may take a while before you find a method that works well for you. While acne can frustrate even the most patient individual, it is important to remember that almost everyone struggled with it at some point in their life. Over forty million people in the United States deal with acne, so odds are you are not alone. Try accepting yourself even with acne — otherwise, you will stress yourself out about it more, which will then cause more acne. It is a vicious cycle, but it is one that you can break by looking past the breakouts.
